LANDOVER, Md. - Ryan Hart and Jonathan Luo earned conference major awards and four Penn State Harrisburg athletes won individual conference championships to lead the way at the United East Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex on Friday, Feb. 28.
As a team, the men earned a runner-up finish out of five competing squads. The women finished fourth among their United East counterparts.
For their efforts, Hart was named the United East Men's Indoor Coach of the Year, while Luo earned United East Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors. Luo (triple jump), Oluwa Kinti (shot put) and Sean Myron (weight throw) captured conference titles on the men's side, while Destiny Samuels won a conference championship (400m) for the women.
As a group, the men earned a dozen United East All-Conference honors, while the women came away with four all-conference plaudits.
Luo won the triple jump while shattering the program record in the event in the process (13.38 meters), added a third-place finish in the long jump and finished fifth in the high jump to secure a pair of all-conference accolades and earn the conference's field athlete of the year award. Myron finished as the conference's weight throw champion and took bronze in the shot put, while Kinti took top honors in the latter event.
Elsewhere on the men's side, Zakareya Aidel (60m hurdles), Tony Pelino (pole vault) and Connor Daubert (weight throw) each recorded runner-up finishes in their events and earned all-conference second-team recognition in the process. The men's DMR and 4x400m relay foursomes also took silver in their respective races.
Nathan Cammauf set a new personal best in the 60m prelims with a 7.08 prelim effort before taking third in the finals. Matthew LaBarge also came home third in the pole vault. Both athletes secured third-team all-conference honors in the process.
On the women's side, Samuels continued her stellar rookie campaign and capped a memorable indoor season by winning the conference's 400m championship and running the second-quickest time in the event in program history (1:02.37). She also earned a runner-up finish in the 800m to nab all-conference second-team recognition in the process.
Taylor Nicholas took bronze in the 200m, as did the women's 4x400m relay team. They also secured all-conference third-team plaudits for their efforts.
