SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's indoor track & field teams got one last tune up in before turning their attention to the upcoming United East Conference Championships when they took part in the SU Invite hosted by Susquehanna on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The day's standout performer was Tony Pelino, as the pole vaulter won his event, set a new personal best and matched the program's all-time record with a top attempt that cleared 4.50 meters - a mark good enough to rank third in Division III's Mid-Atlantic Region.
Sean Myron and Jonathan Luo also turned in new PR's, with Myron finishing sixth in the weight throw thanks to a top toss of 14.42 meters. His effort was good enough to rank third in the event in program history. For Luo, his best leap of 12.93 meters in the triple jump was strong enough to improve his own personal best in the event that ranks second all-time.
Elsewhere on the men's side, Kadin Sodmont ran the 400m, Zakareya Aidel took part in the 60m hurdles, Connor Daubert competed in the shot put and Jon Carnesi, Zack Gibson, Benett Seiler and Angel Patino comprised the DMR.
For the women, the promising rookie season continued for Destiny Samuels, as she earned a top-10 finish in the 800m and improved on her PR in the event by running a 2:28.45 - a mark that already ranks second all-time in the event in program history.
Elsewhere for the women, Katrin Cavanaugh secured a sixth-place finish in the pole vault, Taylor Nicholas ran the 400m, Layna Horner took part in the 60m hurdles, Isabella McGuire threw in the shot put and Gabrielle Deitrich competed in the weight throw.
Looking to keep the late-season momentum rolling, the Lions will wrap up indoor competition when they take part in the United East Championships in Landover, Md. on Friday, Feb. 28.
