LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened the 2025-26 campaign at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday afternoon, Dec. 5.
Five women broke into the program record book in the season opener, while a pair of men also etched their name in the top three of their respective events.
On the men's side, Jonathan Luo was victorious in the high jump thanks to a top leap of 1.90 meters—a mark that ranks third all-time in the event. The reigning United East Indoor Field Athlete of the Year also earned a runner-up finish in the long jump with a top bound of 6.57 meters and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump thanks to his effort of 12.95 meters.
Andrew Geocos made his collegiate debut a memorable one by winning the pole vault with a top clearance of 4.45 meters—an effort that stands as the third-best mark in program history. Kadin Sodmont and Landon Weldon earned top-10 finishes in the 200m, coming home sixth and eighth, respectively, with the latter also securing a seventh-place finish in the 60m. Connor Daubert finished ninth in the weight throw thanks to his top toss of 13.89 meters and Matthew LaBarge also earned a ninth-place finish in the pole vault.
The women also had a big night, with Shaeli McGeary emerging victorious in the triple jump in her first collegiate outing thanks to her best leap of 10.49 meters—a number that ranks third all-time in the event. Destiny Samuels had a nice night, finishing third in the 400m with an effort of 1:02.17 seconds, as well as sixth in 200m thanks to a jaunt of 27.69 seconds.
MaKayla Reichel ran the second-quickest time in the 3,000m in program history and her time of 11:41.65 was also good enough to secure her a second-place finish in the event, while Carson Villani's top bound of 1.47 meters in the high jump was good enough for fourth overall and stands as the second-best mark in program history. Isabella McGuire had a big night as she finished seventh in both the shot put and weight throw, while Katelyn Williams and Katrin Cavanaugh each earned top-10 finishes in the pole vault.
The Lions will look to build on their promising start when they return to action at next month's Susquehanna Invite on Saturday, Jan. 17.
