Men's Hoops' Historic Season Ends In NCAAs at No. 7 Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - An historic 2023-24 campaign came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball with a 76-59 loss at No. 7 Guilford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night, March 2.

 

Donyae Baylor-Carroll led the way with a team-high 16 points, four assists, and three steals, while Isaiah Milien hit four 3-pointers and matched a team-high 16 points. Isaiah Eggleston added a dozen points off the bench. 

 

In the first half, the Quakers (24-4) got off 18 more attempts than Penn State Harrisburg (25-5), grabbed 13 offensive rebounds, and knocked down five more 3-pointers than the Lions, including a couple of wild ones that fell late in the shot clock, to build a 45-21 lead at the break.

 

Baylor-Carroll opened the second half with a 5-0 spurt of his own before finding Milien for a transition layup that cut the deficit to 45-28 with 17:35 remaining. Each time the visitors appeared ready to make a meaningful run, the Quakers responded with a timely bucket. 

 

Guilford was able to stretch its advantage back to 20 by the five-minute mark and the Lions's comeback effort ran out of gas in the closing minutes.

- Penn State Harrisburg advanced to the round of 32 for the third time in four seasons.

- The Lions finished the season with a program record 25 victories. 

- The visitors shot better from the floor (42.6 percent) and 3-point range (33.3 percent) but Guilford got off 15 more attempts on the night.

- The Quakers dominated the glass and finished with a 44-23 rebounding advantage.

- The home team's offensive rebounding led to 24 second-chance points. 

- Baylor-Carroll tallied a team-high 16 points, four assists, and three steals. 

- Miliien buried four 3-balls, matched a team-best 16 points, and grabbed three rebounds.

- Eggleston pitched in with 12 points and three boards off the bench.

- Nate Curry finished with six points and five rebounds. 

- Alex Leiba had five points and five boards.
